During Thursday night’s first round of the NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected Georgia star Deandre Baker with the No. 30 pick overall.

Baker, from Miami, Florida, had a big career at Georgia. Although he’s not an athletic specimen per-say, what he lacks in measurables he makes up for with on-field production. He can simply do anything you ask of him at the corner position. He’s a lockdown corner and tackles well.

During his four years at Georgia (2015-18), Baker racked up 116 total tackles and recorded seven INTs. He also recorded 23 passes defended.

Baker was criticized for sitting out the Bulldogs’ Sugar Bowl game against Texas. Interestingly, ESPN’s Todd McShay said Monday that if Baker falls in the NFL Draft, it will be because of “some frustration from the coaching staff.” He was apparently around the team but “not being the best influence.”

The Miami native was rated a 3-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 64 overall CB and the state of Florida’s No. 83 overall player, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Kirby Smart and his staff certainly had a major hand in developing Baker into a first-round pick.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound corner reminds us of former LSU star Tre’Davious White, who now plays for the Buffalo Bills.
