Senior Bowl practices are ramping up in Mobile, Alabama, and an SEC wide receiver is already turning heads. In fact, Georgia’s Ladd McConkey is making defensive backs look like “cats chasing a laser pointer.”

That’s according to ESPN NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid, who is watching McConkey among 39 SEC players who were invited to the Senior Bowl. But McConkey’s performance so far has led Reid to project McConkey as an NFL star. It was not only his route running, but Reid said McConkey’s hands have been consistent.

“He’s very quick, he has strong hands, and then the catch radius, to be such a smaller guy is something that was so impressive with him,” Reid said, and added that he wouldn’t be surprised if McConkey was drafted in the second round.

As for a sleeper, Reid pointed to Florida WR Ricky Pearsall, who realizes the Pearsall is known for his one-handed grab against Charlotte, and said Pearsall made similar catches in Mobile.

“The route-running ability is something that jumped out right away,” Reid said. “You saw it from the first snap all the way through the team period where he’s able to create separation.”
