Georgia has a lot of famous alums, but legendary wrestler Bill Goldberg is definitely high on that list.
He’s also a big football fan, having played defensive tackle for the Dawgs back in the late-80s before a brief NFL career.
It’s safe to say he’s been paying attention to his former squad this season, and he’s liked what he’s seen from young freshman QB Jake Fromm in particular. On ESPN’s “First Take” on Friday, Goldberg was effusive in his praise of the Bulldogs signal-caller (via 247Sports):
“I think Fromm has shown throughout the season that, number one, he ain’t no freshman anymore,” Goldberg told Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman. “Number two, that he has the ability to win the big game. Look who he beat last week. The reality is the offensive line has everything to do with keeping the defensive line out. They give him time and I think Fromm will do his thing. I don’t want to say pick them apart but I would say that he’ll be able to do his thing if he has time to do it.”
Indeed, Fromm’s calm, collected demeanor in big-time situations has helped the Bulldogs thrive, starting with his first start in Week 2 at Notre Dame.
There are no bigger stages than the National Championship Game, but Goldberg seems to think the young quarterback will be just fine.
