Smith is in his fifth season with the Bears. The 2017 Butkus Award winner and unanimous All-American was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft coming out of UGA.
As a pro, Smith is coming off of back-to-back second-team All-Pro selections. Smith was briefly a camp holdout over contract negotiations. He ended his holdout on Aug. 20.
The Bears are certainly glad to have Smith playing. With games like Sunday, he’s helping himself with that next contract.
