Georgia announces passing of Frank 'Sonny' Seiler, patriarch of 'Uga' mascots
Georgia football announced the passing of Frank “Sonny” Seiler on Monday. Seiler was the patriarch of the legendary line of “Uga” mascots.
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Frank W. “Sonny” Seiler, the patriarch of the long line of Georgia Bulldog mascots known as “Uga.”
Our thoughts go out to the Seiler family during this time.

Seiler and his wife started the mascot tradition by bringing their English Bulldog to the opening game of 1956. Since then, Seiler and his family have raised a continual line of mascots for Georgia, including the present mascot “Uga XI.”
“I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Seiler family on behalf of the entire Bulldog Nation,” UGA President Jere W. Morehead said in a statement. “Sonny’s contributions to the University of Georgia as a student and alumnus were innumerable, and his loyalty to his alma mater was unmatched. His legacy will live on forever in the history and traditions of this great institution.”
Seiler was a Georgia graduate and a distinguished attorney in Savannah. Among many honors, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame presented Seiler with the Erk Russell Spirit Award, which recognizes contributions to sport that mirror the enthusiasm that Russell brought to coaching football.
Seiler was 90 years old.
Sonny was a DGD! Praying for the family.
My condolences and prayers to the Seiler family, they were definitely faithful to their beloved University.
Now maybe we can break from the traditions that have led to the messed blood-lines/genetics for the UGA lineage. It would be nice to have a mascot that patrols the sidelines, runs out onto the field, isn’t passed out on a bag of ice before the 2nd qtr., goes after AU players …
I have always wondered why UGa decided to use an English Bulldog, instead of and American Bulldog. Perhaps it’s the same reason they have a Yankee fight song as well…
UT rolls out a flea bitten, Heinz 57 looking mutt and has the most pathetic, depressing fight song in all of sports.
UGA is the most beloved mascot in college sports.
UT fans wear the same outfit to the deer stand, their road construction crew jobs and UT games.
You all also incorporate a G symbol used by the Packers that they graciously let you use. Come up with something original…
“they graciously let you use,” Grambling uses the oval G as well hillbilly as does high schools all across the Country

Not to mention the Vols never seem to win anything
Better to lose a race than to use the win at all costs method Georgia has been using for a while now.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, blood sacrifices for a championship or two is not a good look.
DGD! Prayers and thoughts to the Seiler family!
