Shutout? Georgia fans upset over poor first-half offense against Kentucky
Georgia’s offense got off to another slow start against Kentucky Saturday night, and the first half numbers are ugly. The Bulldogs and Cats are tied at 0-0 at halftime.
Pouring rain didn’t help quarterback Jake Fromm, and fans were audibly booing the offense during the first half. Fromm finished the first half 8-of-11 for just 28 yards. The Bulldogs offense has only managed to gain 123 total yards.
Georgia didn’t run a single play in Kentucky territory in the first half. Think about that.
Meanwhile, Kentucky has managed just 45 total yards, including no passing yards behind wide receiver-turned-quarterback Lynn Bowden.
With the frustrating loss last week to South Carolina to a poor offensive performance again this week, Georgia fans are obviously upset. Should Georgia not be able to turn this around in the second half, the noise will just get louder for offensive coordinator James Coley.
Here’s what Georgia fans are saying at halftime:
I think it’s safe to say this Georgia team is not even a top 10 team. Offense is one dimensional and all defenses know now this and will force Jake Fromm to beat them. And before this year I’d say he could but I’m having heavy doubts.

This damn Georgia offense is going to put me to sleep… run, run, screen pass, punt…

There’s absolutely no reason I should be sitting at home knowing Georgia’s play calls on offense. Coleys offense is nothing but repetition of the same plays over and over

This Georgia offense ain’t even worth tweeting about but I’m going to….
We trash.

Georgia isn’t top 5 because our WR core involves starting 2 freshman that can’t get separation.both have a bright future but I’m a realist when I say it may be Florida’s year for the east until we get some age to our offense. For that we’re top 10. Not top 5 though. #GoDawgs

Georgia’s offense is disgusting.

I’m done watching Georgia’s offense today. I’ll turn it to another game once the defense gets off the field lol

Swift is the entire offense atm…
Is it the rain or just the hangover from last week because sometimes one loss can turn into two or more.
Coley has not been impressive as OC. The offense is stale and predictable. Without the ability for our receivers to create separation, the playcalling is even worse.
guess that UGA excitement wore off quick
You think Negan is going to survive the season?
He’s too busy living on the Florida articles.
LOL
Nah he sold his trailer
That was too d#!m funny.
Georgia’s receivers are really not that great. It’s hard for a quarterback be effective if his receivers aren’t breaking away, and if the passing game isn’t effective the defense will key in on the running game.
Not a good look for Georgia.
People were talking about UGA struggling with the WRs being young and unproven… It’s definitely been the case so far.
Yes. The WR are young and unproven, which was a concern of mine at the beginning of the season, but I guess I was thinking it would not show up this early. I thought we would see it when we played Florida and again at Auburn.
Boy, was I wrong…
However, I can’t blame the receivers. They are not be coached to separate. That’s on the coaching.
Bama did quite fine with freshman receivers in 2017–it’s not 100% on them. All these routes allow for 0 yards after the catch.
Well UGA isn’t Bama and this isn’t 2017… You can see the WRs struggling if you are watching the games…
Arrrkkk, well or is it whale duma$$, arrrkk!
Watching and re-watching the games. I don’t really have too many issues with the WRs. I have more of an issue with Fromm not trusting his WRs. If you only look at the places he is throwing the ball, that particular receiver may not be getting separation, but when you look at the other receivers running routes, they ARE breaking open. The issue is that it is taking Fromm too long to cycle through his reads and find an open player and routes that take too long to develop (especially against press man) are being called. This particular regression isn’t something I expected from Fromm but you see more teams rushing 3-4 players and dropping everyone else because he will sit there and wait and wait and wait…
The worst thing you can do is blitz Fromm because then you make the choice for him and he’s prepared on where to go. If you drop 7-8 into coverage, he will eat the ball or try to run and get a yard maybe two.
If you were a top receiver why would you go to UGA to block?
Because receivers that can block are HIGHLY coveted in the NFL.
please who is the AD of this school we need fran tarkenton who does not need the money to replace smart now—–this team has too much talent to play like this——the only good thing i see if this continues jake fromm will have to play next year to groom the new qb beck since this is a disaster for his pro prospects
Can’t blame it all on the weather…..Coley needs to go…and also maybe whoever is not coaching these receivers how to create separation.
This is on Kirby, he didnt even attempt to interview anyone else.
Bring Bobo home as OC.
There it is…
Hahahahhaa
Bobo, despite what some UGA fans say, was a good OC, especially the last 2 seasons. No one calls a perfect game but his offenses put up points, and he was an under-rated quarterback coach and OC.
Good recruiter, too.
I remember those days… Watching receivers schemed wide open…
I would love it. Bobo was very under appreciated. He knows the area and is a good recruiter/QB coach
As much as piling it on feels right because of the Georgia trolls here, I can’t do it. I feel bad for the players. There is too much talent on that offense and Coley is wasting it. But Kirby is the one who hired him and continues to let him call plays. Kirby has to stop being stubborn and morph his offense to utilize the talent. I understand the receivers don’t look great. But they have the talent to be great but the coaching is letting them down. The game isn’t over and I can’t imagine Georgia not winning. Keep your heads up Georgia fans (not you trolls). A couple terrible performances doesn’t mean your goals are unattainable. Get the W today and hope Kirby stops being stubborn and makes some changes.
This…
The only argument against firing Coley or stripping him of play-calling duties is… when has that ever worked anywhere before? Might as well dance with the one you came with until the dance is over.
So is this still UGA’s year?
No…
Do you think Fromm stays his senior year?
That’s a good question. As of now, I’m not sure.
I would say no unless they change OC’s and even then he may not.
Doesn’t look like it…
Fromm stays because UGA is not winning the SEC or getting in the playoffs.
No some of us never thought it was. And may never be. Florida looks like it is close to being back. I think we had our best chance with Chubb and Michel.
if the dogs continue like this they will lose to missouri, florida, texas am, maybe ga tech so will smart take credit for the demise of this team and resign without getting any money –
maybe mark richt will come back
dont forget Auburn
For the respectable UGA fans, keep your heads up. But with that in mind, you may wanna send someone to do a welfare check on Negan and a few others
please dont. I hope they never come back
Hey what does it matter? Have you seen their recruiting class next year? Wannabes
swift 39 yard td makes him think he will turn pro to find a coach who can score since this is no longer ok for dog fans to make excuses like we have done so often in the past—-7 points in 2.5 quarters will not beat lsu or bama
or Auburn
Our defense can keep us in the Auburn game.
Dont forget the game is at Auburn. We are hard to beat at home.
But can your offense?
finally after ga scores 2nd td after 3 full quarters will this stand up against lsu , bama, florida etc—-something has to change quick
UGA is still the the standard of the East they got further under Smart than Richt. Unfortunately the risk you take when you fire a coach averaging almost 9 wins a year during his tenure and pursue an unproven coordinator as head coach. I don’t think getting rid of Smart or Coley is the answer the problem is Fromm is good when he has plenty of time but any form of pressure he folds quicker than a bad poker hand. Mostly it looks like hangover from last week.
As I’ve said before, Georgia is starting its fourth quarter beat-down of a team with zero defensive line depth.
0-0 at halftime with Kentucky playing a wide receiver at quarterback.
UK has zero offense
we would be happy if the dogs were 10-2 since we never expected that we would be on par with bama——–the problem is our hopes were put in the stars with brandon adams and mike griffith telling us we were going to win the NC this year——i think that more reasonable forecasters would have noted that jake is a great person but not in the class of tua and now burrow is better than tua so far——-the problem is florida seems to have created miracels with bad players and 3rd string qbs since the coach mullet is good play caller but obnoxious in the press—-georgia must get out of the 3 yards and a cloud of dust from the 50s and figure out what orgeron created
I agree, there’s ways to still utilize a power run game without employing an outdated, predictable offense. I also agree that Brandon Adams and Mike Griffith did too much pumping up of this team during the offseason.
It is painful watching this offense..I refuse to believe these receivers are as bad as Coley’s coaching makes them look..I mean last year watching LSU’s receivers, how many of us thought they were capable of doing the things their doing this year? I blame this on Kirby for hiring Coley in first place.. Kirby can still coach defense and recruit…he just needs to recruit an offensive coordinator and stay the hell out of his way…I’m not sure that will ever happen.. Kirby’s to much of a dictator for that…
in the words of the immortal Dr Seuss… Stink. Stank. Stunk.
Go Dawgs!
It was not a pretty win for the DAWGS, but, it was a win.
With the RB core we have and the weather, not a shock we chose to keep it on the ground. The calls of continuing to run it down the middle is what I continue to question! As soon as Swift & Herrien ran around, is when we got the huge chunks of yards.
Fromm – better game manager than most, but, as many have pointed out, our young receivers are not shaking off the secondary. We MUST improve over the bye week if we have a chance to beat the gators.
