Georgia welcomed its third five-star commit for the 2015 signing class on Friday, picking up Rashad Roundtree out of Evans, Ga., near Augusta.
Sporting UGA-inspired khakis, Roundtree made his intentions known during a ceremony at Lakeside High, verbally committing to the Bulldogs after offers from several SEC schools along with Ohio State, Michigan State, Florida State and Notre Dame.
Rated the nation’s sixth-best safety by 247Sports, Roundtree’s decision comes a few days after an official visit to Ohio State where he watched the Buckeyes deliver a 55-14 win over Illinois. Ohio State was close to landing Roundtree, but the 6-foot-1, 200-pound ballhawk stayed close to home.

Roundtree’s father, Richard, is Richmond County’s Sheriff and spoke with the Atlanta-Journal Constitution this week in preview of his son’s decision:
“Every school that Rashad has visited, he has brought something back positive. He hasn’t had a bad interaction with any of the schools. He’s really sentimental about Duke because they were the first big-time program to offer him a scholarship, and that means a lot to him. They saw something in him before anybody else did. I know that means a lot.
“Of course, with UGA, it’s the in-state school and has a good tradition. I visited with him there a couple of times, and he liked the atmosphere.”
