Georgia edged out Kentucky 13-12 on Saturday night in Lexington.

This game was much tougher than anticipated for the No. 1 Bulldogs. Kentucky made it into a 4-quarter game despite Georgia being favored by more than 3 touchdowns in the betting markets entering the night.

It was a game to forget for the Georgia offense. The Bulldogs managed just 1 touchdown drive the entire night and it didn’t come until there was 12:20 left in the 4th quarter. Georgia’s 4.4 yards per play are the lowest total for that offense since Sept. 4, 2021 when it beat Clemson 10-3.

Georgia’s defense played well for the most part in this game, but Kentucky was able to move the ball in the second half. The Wildcats sustained 4 drives of 10+ plays in this game, including a pair of 11-play field goal drives in the second half.

Carson Beck threw for only 160 passing yards in this game, which is his lowest passing total for any game since he became Georgia’s starter. There’s only been one other game in that span (Georgia Tech last season) where Beck has thrown for fewer than 200 yards.

Kentucky did have an opportunity to potentially take the lead late in the game. Facing a 4th and 8 near midfield with just over 3 minutes remaining, Kentucky elected to punt the ball rather than go for it and risk giving the Bulldogs the ball back at midfield. But Georgia didn’t concede possession again until there was less than 20 seconds left in the game.

With this victory, Georgia extends its win streak over Kentucky to 15 games. This is the first time UK has lost to Georgia by fewer than 10 points since 2016 — the Bulldogs’ first season with Kirby Smart at the helm.

Kentucky is now 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in SEC play following last week’s loss to South Carolina. Mark Stoops falls to 0-12 all-time against Georgia as Kentucky’s head coach.
