As with many big games, the black jersey conversation began this week around Georgia as some fans and others near the program lobbied to have the Bulldogs put an exclamation point on the unprecedented weekend against Notre Dame.

The UGA Equipment staff tweeted Friday afternoon that the team would wear the traditional red tops against the Fighting Irish on Saturday night at Sanford Stadium.

This conversation is generally a generational divide with older fans favoring the traditional look, and younger fans wanting the black jerseys, especially for big games. One compromise seems to be to set a specific game or date each year to wear the black jerseys. However, the game time typically adds or takes away from the look.

A noon game against an FCS opponent does not have the same vibe as a top 10 nonconference tilt like there is this weekend.

For a week, at least, this conversation is put to rest, but don’t be surprised if it pops up again this season, such as against Texas A&M.

The Notre Dame-Georgia game will kick off at 8 p.m. and be televised on CBS.
