After missing all of 2021 for undisclosed personal reasons, Georgia tight end Arik Gilbert has been used sparingly in 2022 as he looks to work his way into the Bulldogs’ offensive rotation.

Dawgs fans hoped that Gilbert would provide another dimension to the offense when he transferred in from LSU after a freshman season in 2020 that saw him make 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns. That hasn’t happened, due to his absence in 2021 and the emergence of Brock Bowers as one of the best TEs in the country.

And Gilbert wasn’t with the Bulldogs again as they visited South Carolina, again due to reasons that weren’t revealed. However, he is at Sanford Stadium with the team on Saturday ahead of kickoff vs. Kent State. As The Athletic’s Seth Emerson noted, though, he was spotted with Georgia’s strength coach, possibly suggesting that he won’t play against the Golden Flashes. Whatever the situation was in Week 3, it’s at least good to know that Gilbert is in the building and with his teammates.

The Bulldogs and Golden Flashes kick off at noon ET on SEC Network+.
