Glenn Schumann immediately went nickname when he was asked about Jamon Dumas-Johnson’s departure recently from Georgia, as the inside linebacker eventually transferred to Kentucky.

“I love Pop. I mean, I wish him the best,” the co-defensive coordinator said at an Orange Bowl press conference. “Obviously, I care about him, and anytime you care about somebody and you have a time that you’re no longer with each other, then that’s what’s best for him in this case. He’s excited, and I’ll wish him the best from that standpoint.”

A couple other linebackers who could see time after Dumas-Johnson’s departure are CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson.

“They’re really mature. They approach their preparation the right way,” Schumann said. “They didn’t start preparing differently when they got opportunities to play. They prepared that way really starting in spring ball when they got here. Going back to bowl prep last year when they were able to come in early. So I think that’s ultimately the mark of a young player that is able to help you. A lot of times it’s relative to their maturity level and how they prepare because nobody gets to Georgia without ability.”

Schumann said he believes the linebacker room is capable without Dumas-Johnson, and the other players are mature and at Georgia for a reason.

“They go about their business the right way,” he said. “I know that when you have faith in how people prepare and do things, in addition to their ability, you know that they’re going to constantly improve. They’ve improved throughout the year. There’s nothing that beats experience. Sometimes they’ve learned from mistakes. Sometimes they’ve gained confidence through plays they’ve made. I’ve really seen really solid growth the last couple of weeks. I’m looking forward to watching them play.”
