As Georgia’s offense continues to look for improvement on offense, coach Kirby Smart was asked about how much autonomy offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Todd Monken has to make decisions, and if they are aligned in their offensive plans.

“He has total autonomy when it comes to offensive decisions, in terms of selecting what we carry into a game,” Smart said at his Monday press conference. “Play-calling, that’s what you hire people to do, to do a job. You turn it over to them and say hey, what’s the best job it can (be). He has a tremendous staff with great experience.”

The staff helps Monken make a game plan in terms of personnel and plays, he added.

“He’s really highly organized, which is what I like,” Smart said. “In terms of each coach having a responsibility and presenting to him their thoughts for that game plan.”

In terms of quarterback play, Smart said, “we’re aligned perfectly. We talked about it each week, we talk about it before each game, we talk about it after each practice. Talk about where guys are, what their strengths are, what their weaknesses are, how we think their strengths can benefit our game plan. … We have a lot of communication about it.”
