When the 2018 season starts, current Georgia OLB coach Kevin Sherrer is expected to be on Jeremy Pruitt’s staff as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator.
Though neither school has officially confirmed the news yet, Georgia coach Kirby Smart discussed Sherrer’s status for the Rose Bowl and a potential national title game appearance.
He said he’s happy that Sherrer will remain on the Bulldogs’ staff throughout the postseason before heading to Knoxville (via OnlineAthens.com):
“When he got the opportunity he got, which I’m really proud of him and his opportunity, first thing he said, he wanted to finish outright, and we want him to,” Smart said Monday. “So he’s done a tremendous job with our outside linebacker group, and he always has. It’s important for us to be at our best in this College Football Playoff. Well, if it wasn’t important to have him, why would we have him here all year? So he’s been here. He’s helped these guys develop, helped the young players develop.”
That’s good news for star LB Roquan Smith and the rest of the Georgia linebacking corps, as Sherrer has done great work with them.
Sherrer will be tough to replace next year, but for now, at least he’s staying through the Bulldogs’ Playoff run.
