Kirby Smart just led Georgia to its first national championship since 1980, making him a very popular person in Athens these days.

He will likely be the Georgia head coach for a long time to come, but first, the school needs to finalize a contract extension for him.

Per Georgia president Jere Morehead on Thursday, there have been positive discussions around a long-term extension for Smart:

Smart is one of the best recruiters in all of college football. He also put together one of the best defenses in college football history this past season.

Are more national championships in Smart’s future? We’ll see what the future holds for him in Athens.
