Kirby Smart not pleased with Georgia’s run game in the first half: ‘We have to run the ball better’
The Georgia-Florida game has lived up to the hype as we have a real battle going on in Jacksonville as the Bulldogs lead the Gators 13-3 at the halftime break.
Neither team has had much success on the ground but the difference in the first quarter has been Georgia’s ability to convert on third downs and Florida’s inability to do so. Georgia is 8 for 10 on third downs while Florida is 0 for 4 so far.
D’Andre Swift leads all rushers with 56 yards on 13 carries. Florida has only nine rushing yards at the break.
The only touchdown of the first half came when Jake Fromm connected with Dominick Blaylock on a 3-yard pass down on the goal line.
Before walking back into the locker room for halftime, Smart was asked to offer his assessment of his team’s performance.
“Well, we have to run the ball better, that’s what we have got to do mostly,” Smart answered. “We did a good job converting third downs but those won’t always be there.”
Smart then offered up these comments on Georgia’s solid outstanding performance in the first half.
“We had a couple of big stops. We stopped them on third down,” Smart said. “They’ve hit some big plays on us, they have some really good players, good weapons.”
