Kirby Smart on Monday was asked about LSU coach Brian Kelly’s comments from Sunday night after a humbling loss to Florida State and he gave a trademark answer.

Kelly said he thought LSU got ahead of itself as it prepared for this game, and after it won the SEC West and was a preseason top 5 team, Kelly said the Tigers were too confident ahead of the FSU game.

“For some reason, we thought we were somebody else,” Kelly said. “That we were the 2-time national champion Georgia Bulldogs or something. I don’t know what we thought, but we were mistaken.”

Smart was asked how he felt about being mentioned like that from one of his peers.

Smart said: “Says you’re one week away from humility. All it says how we’re going to practice today.”

Smart has made a habit of coming up with phrases and motivation tactics to keep the Bulldogs from complacency after they’ve won the last 2 national championships. In the offseason, the coaches and players have studied other successful organizations at the top of their league or industry and searched for ways to avoid a downfall.

Georgia will play host to Ball State on Saturday for a noon kickoff on SEC Network.
