Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs dominated the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl on Saturday.

The Bulldogs won 63-3 against the short-handed Seminoles and gained over 670 total yards of offense. The Bulldog defense forced 4 turnovers and allowed just 209 total yards of offense.

After the game, Smart was asked how he was able to convince his team that this game mattered.

“Well, first, why does the game matter? Because we’re playing a game,” Smart declared. “As long as winning matters, we’re gonna compete like hell at Georgia, it doesn’t matter what it is.”

With so many players choosing to opt-out and/or enter the transfer portal these days, it can be hard to get motivated for bowl games. The team on the other sideline at the Orange Bowl dealt with that harsh reality, as Florida State was heavily impacted by transfers and players deciding to skip the game.

However, as Smart noted, the Bulldogs will always take these games seriously, even if a championship isn’t on the line.

Backing up Smart’s point, the Bulldogs had several key players who opted into the Orange Bowl. Quarterback Carson Beck threw for 203 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kendall Milton added 104 yards on the ground and 2 rushing TDs.

The Bulldogs finished the season with a 13-1 record. The team was unable to return to the College Football Playoff but winning by 60 points in the Orange Bowl is impressive in its own right.
