Earlier this month, Georgia suffered a pair of key injuries. Tight end Darnell Washington and defensive back Tykee Smith reportedly sustained foot injuries in practice on Aug. 17.

In his Monday press conference, Smart was asked about Washington and Smith.

“Each one of them are doing great,” Smart said. “They are moving around now, and we’re hopeful both of those guys will be healthy soon.”

While Smart’s Monday update sounds encouraging, both players are still doubtful to play against Clemson on Saturday, according to UGA beat reporter Mike Griffith of DawgNation.

Griffith calls Smith a “big loss” for the Georgia secondary if he cannot play, noting Latavious Brini and Dan Jackson would likely be next up at the star position.

Washington was recently ranked as Cole Cubelic’s No. 3 tight end in the SEC. Fortunately, the Dawgs also have John Fitzpatrick, Cubelic’s No. 5 tight end in the conference.
