Georgia returns to action from its bye week this week with a noon game against Kentucky, and coach Kirby Smart has updated the status of a couple injured players.

About DJ Daniel and George Pickens, Smart said on the SEC coaches media teleconference on Wednesday that, “DJ has been practicing, he has had an ankle way back since camp, been bothering him some. George is fine. He’s been in and out, banged up but he practiced yesterday.”

Kentucky’s depth chart at quarterback was updated to “or” between Terry Wilson and Joey Gatewood, so Smart was asked about that situation.

“It’s hard to tell based on body of work on Gatewood, going back to high school and Auburn… they both, Terry has come a long way since he started playing for them… Gatewood, you don’t really know without much of a body of work,” Smart said.

Last week, during the off week, Smart shared Georgia’s plan: “We just try to improve on fundamentals, block protection… it’s more about executing at a high level and tackling. This week has been about Kentucky.”

Georgia won’t have a home game until Nov. 21, but Smart said it isn’t as big a deal as it would be if it were a normal season.

“I don’t think it’s a big deal, I think it’s overrated,” Smart said. “Our kids get more rest on the road… I don’t think it’s a big deal… bigger deal during a traditional year with SEC crowds.”
