Georgia freshman Lorenzo Carter already turning heads in preseason camp
SEC fans may not have heard of five-star outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter, but Georgia fans are absolutely giddy to get him on the field.
The hype surrounding Carter has been well documented, and UGA nabbing an in-state stud is big for the program…and big for the defense.
Georgia players are already buzzing about Carter. This one from offensive tackle John Theus:
“Lorenzo has definitely got some quick twitch. He’s long, he reminds me some of Leonard for sure,” Theus said after Saturday’s practice, via Macon Telegraph. “He’s fast. But a good player, a great player. He’s also got a bit of a nasty streak, which is nice to see. I’ve got a lot of respect for that guy, he’s a nice kid, works hard. So I’ll be expecting big things from him for sure.”
That nasty streak could help set the tone for a defense that needs an identity. Playing time may be tough to come by, especially with Jordan Jenkins and Leonard Floyd sure to get after quarterbacks this season.
But Carter may be simply too good to leave off-the-field, and assuming he picks up the playbook and understands what the defense is collectively trying to accomplish, he could have a big impact.
Carter also impressed fellow linebacker Amarlo Herrera.
“He’s a big dude,” Herrera told the Athens Banner-Herald. “I like him. He’s goofy but I like him. He’s huge.”
Huge is a word everyone is using to describe the 6-6, 237-pound freshman. Perhaps the two-game suspension to Davin Bellamy could get Carter on the field sooner rather than later.
