Mekhi Mews delivers latest highlight for Georgia, takes pressure off of struggling offense
Mekhi Mews is the early MVP for Georgia this season, and his latest contribution helped take some pressure off of the struggling offense.
Mews, who made a splash last week against UT-Martin, did it again on Saturday with a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown early in the second quarter. Mews slipped inside and made a tackler miss at the 50-yard line, and got plenty of blocking to be escorted to the end zone.
Last week, he had a similar play from scrimmage. Mews took a screen pass from Carson Beck and zoomed 54 yards to the end zone, as he wiggled past the UT-Martin defense.
Mews’ contributions last week caused Kirby Smart to discuss the importance of walk-ons.

Beck and the Mike Bobo-led offense had some frustrations early on as Georgia was 1-for-3 on 3rd down, and mustered just 24 yards rushing about 3 minutes into the 2nd quarter. Beck fumbled near the Ball State 10-yard line, and then Georgia missed a field goal attempt on its opening possession.
