Georgia is facing a turning point in its season as it looks to rebound from a shocking loss to unranked South Carolina at Sanford Stadium on Saturday.

The Bulldogs play Kentucky this week, but SEC Network host Paul Finebaum said on his regular appearance on “The Roundtable” on Birmingham-based JOX 94.5 radio station that it’s another game that coach Kirby Smart must deal with to get the season back on track toward a championship.

The loss brought to mind other memorable losses for Georgia under Smart, including last year’s 36-16 loss at LSU.

“For Kirby, it was one of his worst losses against someone not named Nick Saban and it’ll be very interesting to see how he deals with it,” Finebaum said. “He dealt with the LSU loss effectively, he came back and beat (Florida) in two weeks. He lit the fire under his team. I saw him before the Florida game in Jacksonville, he didn’t guarantee it, but he almost guaranteed it. This is a shock to the system. How many people have you heard whisper to you, ‘Hey, this is Georgia’s year.'”

After the Kentucky game, Georgia has a week off before the Florida game in Jacksonville, then Missouri in Athens, at Auburn and Texas A&M at home before at Georgia Tech.

“They have a very difficult climb, and I’m not saying they can’t do it, but I didn’t see anything Saturday, or really at any point this season to feel like it is going to be their year,” Finebaum said.
