Todd Gurley again dominated (sound familiar?), with 25 rushes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed a pass to 50 yards, Georgia’s longest pass play of the season en route to the Bulldogs’ 44-17 win.
Here are a couple of thoughts on the game:
What it means: Gurley again carried the Bulldogs in the 20-point win. It looked as if offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was looking to get Hutson Mason into a rhythm really and often, but he again struggled completing just 11 of 17 passes for 121 yards. Mark Richt went to freshman backup Brice Ramsay on the third series of the game but Mason played most of the rest of the way.
What I liked: The aggressive play on defense. Jeremy Pruitt had a good game plan and attacked Vanderbilt early creating pressure and forcing two turnovers. The defensive front four got to Wade Freebeck early and then Steven Rivers later. It was the most active performance from the Bulldogs on the defensive side of the football as they look to stabilize that unit.
Who’s the man: Todd Gurley. He again came on strong late, passing Garrison Hearst on the career touchdown list at Georgia. He now is in sole possession of third place with 35 career touchdowns. He’s 14 scores behind Herschel Walker.
Key play: The play that now stands as the longest pass play of the year for Georgia. It was a 50-yard strike from Gurley to tight end Jeb Blazevich. Mason motioned out to the left side, leaving Gurley in the Wildcat. Gurley lifted the ball over the top to Blazevich with nothing but open space in front of him.
