It turns out, Stetson Bennett can throw the long ball after all.

Georgia’s beloved backup quarterback showed off his arm on multiple throws Saturday as Georgia dispatched of overmatched Missouri at Sanford Stadium, 43-6. On a day when Georgia honored the World Series champion Atlanta Braves, including star outfielder Joc Peterson and mascot Blooper, the Bulldogs shook off a slow start and rolled.

Bennett started his sixth game for Georgia as the Bulldogs continue to manage the quarterback position finding a balance between continuity and health, as JT Daniels recovers from a lat injury. Daniels entered early in the second half with the Bulldogs up by 30 points, his first action since the Vanderbilt game on Sept. 25.

Five different Georgia players scored touchdowns in the game, as the Bulldogs coasted after a bit of a sluggish start in the first quarter. They led 26-3 at halftime, as Bennett piled up 232 yards passing.

Georgia improved to 10-1 all-time in the series, as the Bulldogs kept their firm grip on the No. 1 ranking the same week they opened as No. 1 by the College Football Playoff committee.

Georgia came into Saturday leading the nation in scoring defense with its average of 6.6 points allowed, and ranked second in the nation against the run, allowing 75.6 yards per game. That rushing stat will be higher after Missouri rushed for more than 100 yards in the game. Missouri called 2 timeouts in the closing seconds with the ball near Georgia’s goal line, but couldn’t convert on fourth down.

Georgia bottled up the SEC’s leading rusher, Tyler Badie, who had just 41 yards in the game. Badie came into Saturday leading the league with 989 yards rushing, and was tied for the lead with 11 touchdowns.

After the Georgia offense sputtered throughout the first quarter, Bennett launched a 35-yard touchdown on fourth down to Arian Smith in the corner of the end zone.

Georgia LB Nolan Smith, who was involved in multiple turnovers last week against Florida, made another huge play, this time on a punt block early in the second quarter. However, the ball dribbled into the end zone, but the Bulldogs couldn’t recover it as Dan Jackson was first on the scene. As the ball rolled out of the end zone, it was ruled a safety. That made it 6 games this season that Georgia has scored points on defense or special teams.

Jermaine Burton hauled in another big pass from Bennett on the ensuing drive for 47 yards, as Georgia tacked on another touchdown after 2 running plays near the goal line. Zamir White scored from a yard out to put Georgia up by 13 points, thanks to Jordan Davis blocking at tight end and Jalen Carter at fullback.

Missouri tried to find a spark to start the second half, but a recovered onside kick was called back because of an illegal block.

Missouri briefly held a 3-0 lead with 5:50 left in the first quarter.

Georgia’s defense had early trouble with elusive Missouri QB Tyler Macon, who made his first start, and began with 36 rushing yards on 4 carries, and led a 7-play drive that ended with a field goal. That was just the second time Georgia trailed for the second time this season.

Brady Cook came in at the end of the first quarter and completed his first pass. Eli Drinkwitz alternated Macon and Cook throughout the game, as they also alternated making big plays and mistakes that led to tongue-lashings from Drinkwitz on the sideline.
