Report: Nick Chubb will play against UNC in season opener
Georgia fans…your man is back.
Via a report from 11 Alive and UGA Insider, star running back Nick Chubb is set to return for the season opener against North Carolina.
Head coach Kirby Smart was asked on Wednesday which running backs were set to play versus the Tar Heels. Chubb’s name was the first one out of his mouth.
“I think everybody’s in line to get carries. Nick’s in line, Elijah [Holyfield] is in line, Brian [Herrien] is in line, Brendan Douglas is in line, Tae Crowder is in line. All of those guys are in line to get carries. [Chubb] has done everything we’ve asked him to do and that’s all we can do. He’s helped on special teams, he’s carries the ball, he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do.”
Another big question is the availability of Sony Michel. The combination of Michel and Chubb running the football is arguably the best in the conference. At this time, Smart isn’t sure whether Michel will suit up or not.
“I don’t know if he can play or not. If he can he’ll definitely be in line. But he’s got to be cleared before I do that.”
The return of Chubb is a massive development for Georgia — especially when a starting quarterback has yet to be named. Regardless as to which signal-caller will be under center in the opener, expect the Bulldogs to run the ball early and often.
