Report: QB Brice Ramsey has change of heart, staying at Georgia

Georgia quarterback Brice Ramsey is not transferring from the university after all, according to a report by 247Sports.
Ramsey’s mother, Yolanda, told the outlet that ultimately Georgia is where his heart is.
“Brice has committed to finishing out his time at the University of Georgia,” his mother, Yolanda Ramsey, told Dawgs247. “After visiting and talking with other schools, he could not get past the part of where he is heart was and that is at UGA at the end of the day.”
While Ramsey is likely a third string quarterback for the Bulldogs, just having his veteran leadership and knowing he’s there behind Jacob Eason and freshman Jake Fromm gives Kirby Smart a peace of mind. It’s a good thing to have three scholarship quarterbacks competing for playing time.
It was announced earlier this year that Ramsey would transfer from Georgia, but he agreed to stay this spring because the Bulldogs’ lack of depth at the position. He served in a student-assistant role.
“I’ll let you know since you’ll see it today, Brice (Ramsey) is going to be there and help us,” Smart said during his spring press conference. “He’s going to be a guy who’s out there, not from a scheme standpoint, but he’s going to help. He’s loyal to this program. He’s been very appreciative and has handled everything in a first-class manner. We asked him to help and he said ‘Absolutely, I’ll come out there.’ But not from a standpoint of taking reps away. We’re talking a standpoint of can we get enough balls being thrown? He’s going to do that.”
Earlier this week at the SEC’s spring meetings in Destin, Smart opened the door for Ramsey to return, and he clearly wanted him to stay. That decision was evidently made Thursday.
“Its really a great thing to graduate from UGA and be part of a great program,” Smart said. “We’ve got two quarterbacks. He’s [Ramsey] a guy who can come in and compete first, second or third. And he has great experience, and we want him.”
This will be Ramsey’s fifth and final season at Georgia.
