Kirby Smart is reportedly down one of his on-field coaches right now.

Seth Emerson of The Athletic is reporting, per sources, that Georgia special teams coordinator Scott Cochran is “not currently with the program.” Dawgs247 reports that Cochran is currently not on staff “due to personal reasons.”

Cochran joined the Bulldogs coaching staff in February 2020 after 13 years at Alabama. Cochran had a much higher profile than most strength coaches, even appearing in commercials when he was on Nick Saban’s staff.

After Cochran made the move, it was reported that he pursued multiple opportunities before departing Tuscaloosa. According to reports, Cochran tried to get on Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss staff as a position coach. He was also linked to position roles with Michigan State and the New York Giants.

The move to Athens reportedly came with a pay cut, lowering his salary from $595,000 at Alabama to $550,000 at UGA.

Cochran was a strength assistant with the NBA’s New Orleans franchise prior to his time at Alabama.
