Only 2 linebackers came off the board in the top 10 picks in the last 4 years.

Both of them were Georgia Bulldogs, and both of them went to the Chicago Bears.

After the Bears took Leonard Floyd with the No. 9 overall pick in 2016, they doubled down on their love for Dawg linebackers by selecting Roquan Smith with the No. 8 overall pick on Thursday night.

How does Smith feel about reuniting with his former college teammate? Fired. Up.

“Leonard Floyd, I looked up to the guy a lot,” Smith said via the Chicago Tribune. “Coming from Georgia, he was an older guy. … So it was definitely big looking up to him. I’m a young guy, big-eyed freshman, like this guy is pretty special to see him go ninth overall to the Chicago Bears, so I’m beyond excited right now.”

Smith added that “it’s going to be insane” playing with Floyd again.

Floyd shared that sentiment following his team’s selection of Smith in the first round on Thursday night:

If both of them stay healthy — Floyd tweeted that while recovering from sprained medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in his knee — it’s scary to think about what the freakishly talented edge rushers will do in the same NFL defense. Smith, the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year and consensus All-American, has actually never started a game alongside Floyd.

That figures to change in a hurry in the Windy City.
