Stetson Bennett was in New York on Saturday for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, and like the other finalists, Bennett spoke on ESPN’s SportsCenter about his season.

The first decision, though, was to return after last season’s national championship. Bennett shared how that unfolded with coach Kirby Smart.

“It wasn’t as cut and dry as I guess I made it sound after the national championship, but it was more understood,” Bennett said. “There are things expected of me. I’ve got to come in and take care of my business and get better as one would during an offseason. But also we had won a national championship and I’d shown that I was capable. That me and this offense with Coach Monk and all the guys around me does work well. So it was a mutual understanding between me and the coaches and hey, this is football, brother, nothing’s going to be handed to you. We’ll see how it rolls, at least.”
