Dan Mullen’s Florida program is going to have a tough time catching up to Georgia if the Gators can’t keep the state’s top prospects from playing in Athens. However, that’s a reality Mullen’s program now faces following the latest recruiting rankings update from 247Sports as the top overall prospect from the state of Florida is currently planning on suiting up for the Bulldogs in college.

Georgia fans knew landing defensive lineman Jalen Carter last week was a big deal but they may not have known how big of a deal it would become as 247Sports recently catapulted the Apopka native all the way up to the top of the charts when it comes to 2020 recruits from the state of Florida. Making matters worse for the Gators, the state’s No. 2 overall prospect, running back Demarkcus Bowman, recently committed to Clemson over Florida.

The 6-foot-4, 301-pound Carter now ranks as the nation’s No. 64 overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting cycle and the No. 5 defensive tackle. Carter previously ranked as Florida’s No. 12 overall recruit before his ranking was updated.
