Tykee Smith, who transferred from West Virginia last offseason as Georgia looked to bolster its secondary, has announced his plans for the 2022 season.

Smith suffered a torn ACL in October after he previously missed time following a preseason injury. Smith only appeared in the Vanderbilt and Auburn games, and made 5 tackles on the season.

“Last chance gotta make the most of it,” Smith wrote on social media.

Smith played the STAR/nickel position for Georgia after he joined the program through the transfer portal after 2 seasons West Virginia. He came to Georgia as a Freshman All-American in 2019 and a second-team All-American in 2020.

Smith’s return is positive for a Georgia secondary that will have plenty of new faces in 2022. The Bulldogs have lost Jalen Kimber, Lovasea Carroll, Latavious Brini, and Ameer Speed to the transfer portal since the season ended on Monday in the national championship. Also, safety Lewis Cine also declared for the NFL Draft.

Smith will join William Poole and Chris Smith for the makings of the early Georgia depth chart.
