Sometimes, not everything that needs to be said can be said over a network broadcast. So that’s why we are bringing you Saturday Down South’s Uncensored Commentary of No. 5 Georgia vs. No. 24 Auburn:

Welcome to a chilly night in Athens, Georgia for the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. It’s an intriguing game that should answer a lot of questions, mainly, “How the heck is Auburn ranked?”

Let’s get started …

15:00

Jarrett Stidham and Auburn get the ball first, and on second down they break out the flea flicker. It gets them about 4 yards, but that seems to be the extent of Gus’ game plan and they punt three plays later.

Auburn’s defense comes out very fired up, until they realize they have to tackle Elijah Holyfield. Georgia’s offense then begins to get on a roll until they realize that they have to score a touchdown inside the 5-yard line. A field goal is much easier.

Georgia 3-0.

6:15

Stidham leads a nifty drive down the field for Auburn and they score on a halfback pass. Looks like Gus had more than just the flea flicker in his game plan for tonight. Auburn fans who want him gone are starting to feel a little conflicted.

Auburn 7-3.

2:15

Justin Fields Alert! Welp, he just handed it off. This was just a test of the Justin Fields Alert System.

With a few nice runs, Georgia gets it just inside the red zone. But on third down, Jake Fromm gets thrown to the ground on a real heads up play by Auburn. Unfortunately it was literally a heads up play and Auburn gets called for targeting.

The bad news for Georgia is it’s back face to face with its worst nightmare: 1st-and-goal. They can’t do anything and it’s another Blankenship field goal.

Auburn 7-6.

2nd quarter

Auburn’s offense continues to carve up the Georgia defense. The Bulldogs’ secondary is making Jarrett Stidham look like Jake Fromm before the LSU game, and the Tigers are able to drive right down the field.

Auburn makes a point of showing that Georgia’s not the only offense that knows how to stall out at the 5-yard line. They kick a field goal and go up by 4.

Auburn 10-6.

7:13

Auburn continues to have no interest in tackling Georgia’s running backs, an interesting strategy, but who are we to question Auburn’s coaching decisions.

Eventually, Jake Fromm gets the Dawgs their first touchdown of the night with a beautiful throw, and Auburn is back to playing from behind, which is a position they’re much more comfortable with.

Georgia 13-10.

0:21

Auburn’s offense finally gets back to basics and goes 3-and-out in no time.

Georgia has about a minute left before the end of the half and they’re not gonna play it safe, which for Georgia means avoiding any sort of goal-line scenario. Fromm hits Terry Godwin on 4th down for a long 50-yard touchdown to put the Dawgs up double digits before half.

Georgia 20-10.

3rd quarter

15:00

Auburn gets a stop on defense to begin the second half, but the good vibes for the Tigers end when, on consecutive plays, Jarrett Stidham misses a wide open receiver on third down and another Auburn player forgot what team he plays for and tries to catch his own team’s punt. There are easier ways to transfer, but you have to respect the effort.

9:22

Georgia leads another solid drive down the field, but it ends when Jake Fromm throws an interception. The ESPN crew says they could hear Jim Chaney pound the table in disgust, but more likely it was just the ghost of Mike Bobo showing up to haunt his favorite location.

5:44

Auburn’s offense is struggling to do anything this quarter and Gus already used up his flea flicker on the second play of the game, so there’s not a lot of options left.

Late in the third quarter, the Tigers find themselves backed up on their own 1-yard line but call a timeout to avoid a delay of game. A very smart move that will save them about half a yard.

4th quarter

13:04

It seems this game is teetering between a Georgia blowout and danger time for the Dawgs this entire second half, but all that ends when Swift breaks a long touchdown run spurred on by what has to be the coolest looking dad in all of college football.

Georgia 27-10.

10:15

Auburn seems just as relieved that this game is out of reach and begins playing with the urgency of an early season game against Alabama State, back when the win against Washington was an impressive one.

6:13

Auburn punts quickly and it’s Justin Fields time for Georgia — the only quarterback in college football who can make the crowd go crazy just by dropping back to pass. But on 1st-and-goal from the 1, Fields takes a sack that loses about 20 yards.

But when the Dawgs line up for the field goal, the snap goes to directly to Rodrigo Blankenship, who throws a pass just over the outstretched arms of an open Isaac Nauta in the end zone. This of course begs the question: Does Kirby Smart trust his kicker to throw the ball more than he trusts his back-up quarterback?

2:12

We made it through almost the entire game before the ESPN announcers mentioned Gus’ buyout, which is usually a second quarter topic at the latest.

Final: Georgia 27-10

The Bulldogs get the win in the big rivalry and continue to cruise into the SEC Championship Game, where they will have to win for their shot at the Playoff. Or they can just take Alabama’s approach and refuse to show up for the SEC Championship Game but make it into the Playoff anyway.
