John Calipari issued an injury update for Kentucky forward Ugonna Onyenso on Wednesday morning.

Calipari said that Onyenso injured his ankle at the end of Tuesday’s scrimmage and will not play for the Wildcats on Wednesday. His status for the rest of the week is also questionable.

Kentucky faced off against a team from Africa at the 2023 GLOBL Jam in Canada on Tuesday. According to Calipari, Onyenso recorded 6 blocks in that game.

Kentucky’s front court depth is being challenged at this point in the offseason. Kentucky 5-star freshman Aaron Bradshaw is out with a foot injury that could jeopardize his availability for the start of the 2023-24 season.

With Bradshaw out, Onyenso is projected to play a big role for the Wildcats this season. He’s a candidate to be Kentucky’s first big off the bench in relief of projected starter Tre Mitchell.

Onyenso is entering his 2nd season in Lexington. Last year, he appeared in 16 games off the bench as a true freshman. He averaged 2.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1 block per contest in just under 7 minutes per night.

Kentucky is set of face Team Germany at 1:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday afternoon. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
