A pair of Kentucky football players have had to end their UK careers.
Nathan Beighle of A Sea of Blue reported this week that defensive end Sam Anaele and offensive tackle Josh Jones have medically retired. The players will maintain academic scholarships while not counting against the football team’s 85 scholarships. Neither player is listed on the 2023 roster after being with the program in 2022.
Anaele joined the Wildcats in 2020. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, he played high school football at the McDougle Technical Institute in Pompano Beach, Florida. He was a 3-star prospect who drew interest from Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami, Michigan and others. He redshirted in 2020, playing in 4 games over the past 2 seasons.
Jones was also part of UK’s 2020 class. A 3-star prospect out of Central in Phenix City, Alabama, Jones picked up scholarship offers from 14 schools, including Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Per Jones’ bio, he redshirted in 2020, practiced with the team in 2021 and missed 2022 due to injury.
