Kentucky linebacker boldly challenges Florida TE Kyle Pitts
Florida tight end Kyle Pitts has been a matchup nightmare all season, already with eight receiving touchdowns as the No. 6 Gators make a push for a College Football Playoff appearance.
One Kentucky defender doesn’t seem too worried about what Pitts has done to this point, however.
“Kyle Pitts is most definitely going to see me this week,” linebacker J.J. Weaver told reporters, per Jon Hale of the Louisville Courier Journal. “We’ve just got to be more physical than him.
“He is a great player. He’s going to get up and jump, but he’s just never had J.J. Weaver on him before.”
Kentucky fans have to love the confidence, but at the same time, it can be a dangerous thing to give a playmaker like Pitts any bulletin board material.
We’ll see the matchup for ourselves on Saturday when Kentucky faces Florida in Gainesville.
He’s never had JJ Weaver on him. I guess its good to be confident, but Pitts makes play’s with two and three guys on him. I don’t see a linebacker covering him not even JJ Weaver.
What a fool. Seems like Stoops is losing control of his team.
The guy with a grand total of 18 tackles on the season is talking trash? That’s pretty funny!
That’s cute JJ. I remember Kash Daniels running his mouth too. Just play the game and try to keep it clean.
Everything he said was true. Doesn’t look like trash talk to me.
Touchdown Pitts! Still wanna run your mouth UK toast master?
And now three tds forPitts. Learn to be silent Kentucky!
JJ Weaver got the start today.Stoops said he deserved it the way he’s been playing.. A backup trash talking. Pitts has 3 tds. Haven t seen Weaver covering Pitts. He can’t.
Pitts just beat him easily. It was a man versus a child.
JJ Weaver, young man. You have to learn not to run your mouth. Let your play on the field speak for itself. You have nothing for Mr. Pitts.
Heard over the PA system earlier today at Bill Hill Griffin stadium… ‘Your attention please, your attention please… would Mr. Weaver please report to the end zone for a meeting with Mr. Pitts.’
Okay JJ, I’m glad you are working hard and improving and that your confidence is increasing BUT there is a point where confidence crosses the line to cockiness. Pitts has proven he is one of the best – if not the best – TE in the SEC so you might want to show a bit more respect and let your play do all the talking. Who knows, in a couple of years with more hard work SDS and others might be talking about how other teams have to plan on how to handle you.
Attention Mr. WEAVER, Attention Mr. WEAVER… WILL THE REAL MR. WEAVER PLEASE STAND UP… Yes JJ Weaver is a force to be reckoned with in the conference. His Coaches do a good job of teaching him to be humble and to let his playing on the field do the talking. Keep your head up Mr. Weaver!
To the writer of this article–no, Kentucky fans do NOT “have to love the confidence.” Your performance should do all the talking.
Allow me to play “old has-been on the sidelines” for a minute:
If I were a coach and my players did any trash talking at all before or after the game, especially in a public setting such as a press conference or on social media, that player would sit for probably at least the first half. Doesn’t matter if he was the second coming of Barry Sanders or Tom Brady.
Weaver got what he deserved in this game.
It’s never a good idea to talk trash beforehand in a situation like this. You just become bulletin board motivation.
I hope none of our guys do this the week of the Sec Championship against Alabama. Hopefully CDM will put a lid on that kinda talk. I think our offense can go toe to toe with Bama. But our defense just isn’t up to snuff to be able to get past bama.
I remember a few unpleasant moments of pre-game trash talking coming back to haunt us– like the weird “A duck can’t pull a truck” ramble a few years ago.
I commend the confidence a player has when going up against a great player but there’s a fine line in just keeping your mouth shut until day of game then running your jaw talking smack looking a fool when you can’t back it up !
