Kentucky lost some depth on defense with the news that a freshman linebacker has left the team.

Matt Jones reported that Shawn’Kel Knight-Goff, a Louisville native (Doss), has left the team, according to a source. Knight-Goff is listed at 6-2 and 220 pounds.

He was a 3-star prospect and ranked as one of the top 10 prospects in Kentucky in his recruiting class. 247Sports rated him as one of the 50 best weakside defensive ends in the country. He chose the Wildcats over Louisville and Purdue after he made 66 tackles, nine sacks, three fumbles forced and one fumble recovered as a senior. He was named an all-state performer as a senior and tabbed to the Louisville all-metro first team.

Knight-Goff did not see any action in games this season. He committed to Kentucky May 18 then decommitted May 31, and re-committed Oct. 26.
