Kentucky’s fears were realized about Nik Scalzo and the extent of his knee injury suffered in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Coach Mark Stoops told reporters on Tuesday morning that the freshman quarterback will need surgery on his injured knee and will miss the season. Scalzo suffered the injury in a non-contact situation. The same knee was hurt last season in high school, which the coach called a shame because Scalzo was playing well.

Stoops said Saturday that he was concerned about the severity of Scalzo’s injury.

In the third season of the Netflix show, “QB1: Beyond the Lights,” Scalzo is featured alongside Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler and Maryland quarterback Lance Legendre.

Scalzo is a freshman from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was a consensus 3-star prospect, and one of the top 10 quarterbacks in Florida. He’s listed at 6 feet and 175 pounds.
