Lauren Johnson may have just delivered the catch of the year for Kentucky softball as the left fielder went above and beyond to reel in a foul ball.

Playing against Buffalo in the sixth inning in an eventual 7-0 win over Buffalo, Johnson tracked a high foul ball to the fence, caught it, then somehow held on as she toppled over the fence and out of play. She was all smiles jogging back to her teammates who were ready to celebrate.

The graduate student from Owensboro, Kentucky is off to a great start this season for Kentucky, which is 18-2 already this season.

In the game, Renee Abernathy hit the first inside-the-park home run at Kentucky since 2014 and Miranda Stoddard pitched a complete-game shutout as the No. 9 Wildcats prevailed Friday morning at the 2022 Bluegrass Classic.

Here’s her Kentucky bio:

2021 (Senior): 18 multi-hit games this season … 11 games this year with multi-RBI’s, including four games with 3+ RBI … Had a hit in all three games vs. Alabama … Moves between second base and right or left field defensively … Can also play SS, as that’s where she played in 2020 … Hit a career-high .350 on the season with 40 runs scored, 64 hits and double-digit doubles.
