LOOK: This stat about Kentucky and Duke football teams being ranked will blow your mind
When people think of Duke and Kentucky, they think basketball first, not football.
That’s not meant as disrespect, especially to this year’s Duke and Kentucky football teams — it’s just that both programs have been so dominant in basketball over the years.
So, when both football programs made an appearance in the AP Poll, with Kentucky at No. 17 and Duke at No. 22, it snapped an impressive streak from the basketball programs.
As you can see in the tweet below, Duke and Kentucky football were last ranked at the same time in 1957. Since then, the two basketball teams have been ranked at the same time a whopping 547 times:
This is the first time Duke and Kentucky have been ranked in the same football AP poll since the Sept. 14, 1957 poll.
They have been ranked in the same basketball AP poll 547 teams in that span.

Both programs are 4-0, and it’ll be interesting to see how they fare moving forward. Duke plays a struggling Virginia Tech team next week, while Kentucky hosts South Carolina.
Basketball season starts in November, so we’ll have to see if the Wildcats and Blue Devils are both ranked then.
