Kentucky recently held its second spring scrimmage, and Mark Stoops came away impressed with the passing game.

Stoops spoke to the media Tuesday about Terry Wilson’s and Gunnar Hoak’s progress this spring, namely in the second scrimmage.

“They’re more efficient,” Stoops said. “They’re throwing the ball good. Terry’s really done good. Gunnar had one heck of a scrimmage. I was really impressed with Gunnar. Our twos right now, defensively, the depth isn’t what I’d like it to be right now. You definitely feel a little more different. But not to take anything away from Gunnar because I’ve been really impressed with him. He’s played really well. I’m not taking anything away from Terry, because just in general, we’re throwing the ball better. Terry has worked extremely hard. We’re improving. But I thought Gunnar really had a good scrimmage.

“We’re working harder in the passing game. I’ve talked about it just about every time I talk to you guys, we need to improve at the receiver position. We need to improve outside. Be more consistent. Give our quarterbacks some options, some weapons.”

Wilson, of course, is the Cats returning starter, but it sounds like Hoak isn’t going to make it easy on Wilson this spring. Wilson was far from perfect during the bowl game, and Hoak could theoretically make this position battle really interesting in 2019.
