Sharpe was introduced as a Kentucky basketball player. He enters the NBA as a “mystery man.” Sharpe enrolled at Kentucky after reclassifying from the class of 2022 to 2021 but did not suit up during this past season for the Wildcats. Sharpe recently said it was his decision not to play for the Wildcats last season.
Out of Dream City Christian High School in Glendale, Arizona, Sharpe was the 247Sports Composite’s No. 1 shooting guard and No. 3 prospect overall nationally. He picked up 15 scholarship offers before enrolling at UK.
Kentucky coach John Calipari believes that Sharpe could have been the No. 1 overall pick if he had returned for the 2022-23 season.
John Calipari said had Shaedon Sharpe chosen to play college ball next season, he would have been the 2023 No. 1 overall pick. Cal has coached four No. 1 selections, so he may know of what he speaks. If so, incredible for Portland.
