Ugonna Kingsley, a 7-foot center who is ranked the No. 9 player at his position, has committed to play in the SEC.

Kinglsey, who is from Putnam, Connecticut (Putnam Science Academy), committed to Kentucky, and explained to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports that it’s because of the Wildcats’ style of play. He has a reported 19 offers, and is the No. 1 player in Connecticut, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Kingsley recently made the decision to reclassify from the 2023 class into 2022 and therefore will enroll in Lexington this fall. He joins a pair of 5-stars in Chris Livingston and Cason Wallace, along with 3-star Adou Thiero and Illinois State transfer Antonio Reeves are the other 2 newcomers to Kentucky this offseason.

Kingsley is from Nigeria, and here’s his scouting report from 247Sports:

A 7-footer with a 7-foot-5 wingspan, he not only has game-changing size and length, but also terrific defensive instincts. He was one of the most dominant shot-blockers in all of prep school basketball last year, after arriving at Putnam Science Academy for the second semester. While his defense is currently ahead of his offense, he has a soft natural touch to develop and is also both a lob threat and a rim-runner who changes ends particularly well for a player his size.
