The Kentucky Wildcats have been waiting for a few NBA decisions in recent days, and on Wednesday, a couple of them came in, as it was the deadline for players to stay in the 2018 NBA Draft or return to school.
Obviously, stars Kevin Knox and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were gone, and Hamidou Diallo joined his teammates in the draft. PJ Washington declared he was returning to school earlier on Wednesday afternoon, leaving Gabriel and Jarred Vanderbilt as the only remaining players yet to make a decision.
As you can see in the video below, the sophomore forward decided to remain in the draft, ending his time at Kentucky:
To the best fans in the world, I couldn’t be more honored to have worn that Kentucky name across my chest for the past two years. It truly has been a blessing. To all those who have supported me, I just want to say thank you. My time here will never be forgotten… wish me well! pic.twitter.com/zpukdXMcf1

Gabriel only averaged 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds for Kentucky last year, starting only seven of Kentucky’s 37 games. However, the Wildcats are returning a loaded roster this year, so perhaps Gabriel felt he’d be better off testing the NBA waters.
