Outside of South Carolina, many SEC fans may not be familiar with Wofford, a college campus of only 1,600 enrollees. By beating No. 10-seed Seton Hall 84-68 on Thursday night, the No. 7-seed Terriers from Spartanburg, S.C. advanced to face Kentucky Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to the press, Wofford coach Mike Young, 55, said his team won’t be intimidated by facing the Wildcats. Young’s squad knows what it’s like to face a power conference opponent.

“We may get our ears pinned back tomorrow, but it will not be because my team is intimidated,” Young told reporters. “We went to Phog Allen Fieldhouse. We had North Carolina at home… Oklahoma, very, very good. You know, there is a method to the madness. I do — our non-league schedule is always really hard.”

Wofford is 30-4 entering Saturday’s game, set for a 2:40 p.m. ET tip on CBS. The only four losses are to North Carolina (78-67), Oklahoma (75-64), Kansas (72-47) and Mississippi State (98-87) – all teams that made the NCAA Tournament. The Terriers even managed to knock off one SEC opponent, downing South Carolina 81-61 on Nov. 26, 2018.

UK, however, is a step up from South Carolina and Mississippi State.

“I was just in awe when I saw (Kentucky) yesterday,” Young said Friday. “I made the mistake before our game, I went out and watched them play Abilene Christian a little bit. I wished I hadn’t have done that. Goodness gracious, they’re just enormous.”

The Terriers will play to win, but regardless of outcome, it will be a game they remember for a long time.

“Way back, I remember sitting and listening to that AM radio station through the Carolinas and Virginia and Kentucky, West Virginia and listening to Cawood Ledford and that ’78 team, and those were great, great — are great, great memories,” Young said. “To strap it on tomorrow and walk out there and face UK, I mean, that’s a highlight. That will be a highlight for my team. That’ll be something they’ll never forget.”
