A lot goes on in an NFL game even beyond the regular television audio. Thankfully, stars like Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow are mic’d up to let us in on some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the event.
Burrow wore a mic recently in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it offered a glimpse into the conversations and emotions for the former LSU star. Here are some highlights:
“I’m sorry what’s your name?,” Burrow said.
“Alex,” the referee replied.
“Alex, I didn’t just want to call you Mr. Ref all day.”
Later, he said, “That was a dime right there.”
“Great job. Hey, they can’t stop us. The only people that can stop us is ourselves.”
“Great job, O-line, yeah! … Let’s go put ’em away, let’s go put ’em away.”
After he slid on a play, he said, “I learned from the last couple of weeks, y’all ain’t hitting me anymore.”
The refs also offered advice on getting down. “Yeah, I’m still learning how to do that, I’m learning.”
In the win, Burrow and the Bengals rolled up 505 yards of offense, as he became the first rookie in NFL history to throw for 300 or more yards in three consecutive games.
The Heisman Trophy winner completed 25-of-36 attempts for exactly 300 yards and a TD.
