For a college football star as prominent as Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, getting engaged is national news. That doesn’t mean sportscasters can’t have some fun with the news.

WBRZ sportscaster Matt Trent used the Lawrence news to troll the star quarterback and his teammates over losing the national championship game to LSU.

“Congrats to both of them. Joe Burrow… not available for comment,” Trent says in the video below. “But don’t worry, Trevor. Daddy is proud of you. Go, Tigers!”

Of the two standout quarterbacks, Burrow had the better night in New Orleans. The 2019 Heisman Trophy winner logged 463 passing yards and 6 touchdowns (5 passing, 1 rushing) in LSU’s 42-25 victory over Clemson to win its first national championship since 2007. Lawrence, meanwhile, posted 234 passing yards, 49 rushing yards and a rushing TD.

With Burrow gearing up for his rookie season with the Cincinnati Bengals, the next time the two cross paths on the field will be in the NFL. If there is a college football season, Lawrence will have the chance to earn Burrow’s Heisman vote.
