Whether or not the LSU-BYU game takes place in Houston on Saturday remains to be seen, but it will eventually be played somewhere, and when it is, the Cougars face a tough challenge.

That challenge is named Derrius Guice, the SEC’s leading rusher in 2016. If BYU is going to pull off the upset against LSU, the Cougars will need to limit the damage Guice can cause.

Guice has been battling a minor injury this summer, but hasn’t been ruled out for Week 1 yet. According to BYUCougars.com, coach Kilani Sitake said his team needs a huge effort from its defensive front seven:

“Derrius Guice is a really good player,” Sitake said. “I think he only had six starts last year when Fournette was hurt, and in the games that he played he got 1,300 yards rushing or so. He was dynamic and he can run. It’s going to be a huge task for our guys, but I think Fred [Warner] and the boys are ready roll. We’ll see what happens with our defensive front and our linebackers being able to stop the run. We’ll prepare for it and see what happens.”

LB Fred Warner said he’s looking forward to the challenge and knows that the game will come down to making sure Guice doesn’t run wild:

“He’s a guy that has been all over the media so far,” Warner said. “He’s a great player. Watching him last season for Leonard Fournette, he’s a powerful running back. He can make guys miss, so we are just going to have to contain him and hold him to minimal points.”

As of right now, LSU and BYU are scheduled to play on Saturday, Sept. 2, at NRG Stadium in Houston. The game can be seen on ESPN at 8:30 p.m. Central time.
