As we head into conference championship weekend, Ohio State is the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings, followed by No. 2 LSU.

On Saturday morning’s episode of College GameDay, CFP chair Rob Mullens joined the crew to discuss the rankings.

Can LSU take the top spot? Mullens said it is certainly possible:

“Well, the discussion has certainly been vigorous,” he said. “We’ve moved around; so, yes, LSU has been dominate. A great team and great offense. We saw what their defense can do last week. So, I’m sure we’ll be debating that after the results.”

But, why are the Buckeyes ranked No. 1 over the Tigers now? Mullens also discussed that:

“Well, they’ve had great years. Both are great teams,” Mullens explained. “Several wins against great opponents. I think Ohio State’s consistency and their ability to dominate their opponents is what gives them a slight edge (over LSU).”

Saturday’s game should be an interesting one for the Tigers. Can they make a statement? Or, will they enter the Playoff as the No. 2 seed (or worse)?
