Jay Johnson and LSU are preparing for a trip to the College World Series in Omaha, and noted to reporters on Tuesday that Charles Schwab Field is bigger, but usually the pitching is better in the CWS and that’s why it seems even harder for hitters.

The LSU coach spoke about pitching depth as the Tigers get set to play Tennessee at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday on ESPN as the full bracket is set.

“I think we all just kind of assumed but when you’re in bracket two, there’s definitely less downtime,” he said. “And I actually don’t mind that for our team, you know, especially with the way more guys have been contributing. I mean, if if you want me to get really picky about the regional or the Super Regional I would have liked to have gotten more pitchers in the game that we think are good. So they’ll have that chance, you know, in this tournament.”

Johnson also shared a motivational message he tells the Tigers: “You either have a goal, or you have dreams, and if you work towards something deliberately … that’s a goal …What I tell players is to make goals instead of dreams.”

The Vols and Tigers met in Baton Rouge in March. LSU took 2 out of 3 to win the series.
