Even though charges were dropped, Derrius Guice is still being suspended by the NFL.

The NFL announced Friday that Guice, currently a free agent, has been suspended for the first six games of the 2021 season.

Guice was arrested last August and faced a charge of felony strangulation in addition to four misdemeanors for allegedly choking, pushing and destroying the cellphone of his then-girlfriend in a string of incidents that occurred during a six-month period in 2020.

The felony charged was dropped and the misdemeanors were dismissed by a judge after Guice reached a settlement with the woman. The NFL does its own investigations on matters of conduct and does not determine punishment solely based on the status of a legal case.

Guice was released from the Washington Football Team after the arrest, ahead of the 2020 season.

Multiple allegations have been made against Guice stemming back to his time in Baton Rouge. LSU has since banned Guice and removed his stats from the program’s record book.
